Driver dead after ute hits tree

A MAN has died after the ute he was driving hit a tree at Tea Gardens on Saturday morning.

Police said emergency services were called to Myall Street about 9.15am after reports of a crash. Port-Stephens Hunter police say they arrived to find a ute had struck a tree. The driver and only occupant of the vehicle, a 53-year-old man, was treated at the scene by paramedics, but could not be revived and died at the scene, police said.

Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police said a report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
