A carpenter under immense financial pressures led police on a nine-minute high speed chase through Bristol before crashing into another car and injuring the driver. And, after they could smell alcohol on his breath, he refused a blood sample, Bristol Crown Court heard.
Anthony Whiston, 49, of Hedwick Street in St George, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen of breath after the incident in August last year. The Recorder of Bristol His Honour Judge Peter Blair KC handed him a six month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.
The judge told him: "You have caused extreme suffering to another person for which you are entirely responsible."
