A drive-thru restaurant could be coming to a former hotel and hand car wash in Bulwell where residents had previously complained about "constant noise." The new development would be located on land off Hucknall Lane, which was previously home to the Apollo Hotel.
Documents outlining plans for the new site state it would be a mixed-use development comprising a drive thru restaurant and take away, and two walk in-units which could include hot food takeaways, launderettes and a tanning salon.
Planning permission was then submitted in 2013 for the site to house a hand car wash, with this permission then lapsing and the business owners having to apply again to Nottingham City Council. Although the authority initially refused permission for the car wash to continue, it later allowed it to do so with certain new conditions.
Despite the council granting permission, some residents had told Nottinghamshire Live that they were concerned about the impact of the business on the local area. In particular, some residents highlighted problems around "constant noise."

But the car wash now appears to have been permanently closed and a new planning application seeks to take down the existing canopy structure that was part of it. In its place, a drive-thru unit would be built alongside two other 'walk-in' units and a car parking area.
The car park would have space for 30 vehicles, including three disabled spaces and six electric vehicle charging points. In regards tp the impact on residents, the planning documents state: "The proposed development respects the existing residential units by retaining the existing timber fence on the north, east and south boundaries and replacing the existing acoustic fence with a new, better and taller acoustic fence.
"The design of the scheme has responded to the pre-application comments by positioning all units as far to the west as far from the residential on the eastern boundary and as close to the busy and noisy Hucknall Lane as possible. By taking these measures it will help to minimise potential noise."
The developers pledge that their project would involve the "re-purposing and enhancement of an under-utilised, high profile roadside site with a high quality and attractive new development." The drive-thru unit under the plans submitted would measure 1,800 square feet.
Developers also say the project would improve the local economy and bring local jobs if approved. The application was submitted on January 24 and Nottingham City Council says it is now pending consideration.
