Many will forget their balanced diets when an evening out with friends comes along, and rightfully so as everyone has to treat themselves now and again.
However, those who have a few nights out in a row lined up might want to keep on top of their calorie intake. You might not realise how calorie-dense certain drinks are, and that some simple swap outs can save you hundreds of calories depending on what you're drinking.
With that in mind, Tom Bell, Drinks Expert from DrinkWell, has shared some easy swaps that you can make on a night out to cut down calories.
So, for beer lovers Tom recommends ditching the pint for a low-carb bottle. The expert says that you would be going from approximately 338 calories to less than 99 by making the switch.
He says: "Some lagers can have up to 338 calories so check for a low calorie option such as a The Löwecal Lager which is just 88 calories."
Meanwhile wine drinkers might want to opt for a sugar free option, as they could cut calories from 99 to 78 with the easy switch. DrinkWell research also found that Rosé wine has on average around 91 - 92 calories per 125 ml, while White wine has 98 - 99 calories.
Now onto the spirits, where there are savings of 130 calories to be had. All that has to change is the mixer to a slimline, according to Tom.
"With a standard G&T racking up 190 calories, just a few drinks on a night out could lead to almost half your daily intake," The expert explains. "Next time you’re craving a gin, go for a single gin, such as a Luxlo Ginny which is 20 Percent ABV and just 23 calories per serving, with a slimline tonic, and save around 130 calories per drink!"
A mixer switch from coke to diet coke could save rum drinkers around 85 calories, with the former containing 185 calories while a rum and diet cola has just 100.
If you're in the mood for a cocktail, you may be best steering clear of the Strawberry Daiquiri as Tom calls it "a huge calorie stealer" - with some containing up to 450 calories per drink.
He went on: "A much lighter tequila option is a margarita which on average has around 170 calories per drink."
And on the topic of tequila, if you're going to be doing shots, the expert recements using the former over a Jagerbomb. A Jagerbomb can have around 210 calories per drink, while a tequila contains just 65 calories.
