Dricus Du Plessis laughs off Darren Till’s advice to Israel Adesanya: ‘The man got taken down by a boxer’

PERTH, Australia – Dricus Du Plessis scoffed at Darren Till for giving Israel Adesanya advice.

Till found some success in his submission loss to Du Plessis at UFC 282, but was ultimately choked out in Round 3. The former title challenger, who parted ways with the UFC in early 2023, took to social media to offer Adesanya advice on how to approach Du Plessis, which Du Plessis found comical.

Adesanya (24-3 MMA, 13-3 UFC) challenges Du Plessis (21-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) for the middleweight title in Saturday’s UFC 305 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) main event at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

“I mean, the man got taken down by a boxer,” Du Plessis said at Wednesday’s UFC 305 media day. “Maybe try and practice what you preach, man. The man couldn’t stop a single takedown. The man said he won two rounds – he didn’t win two rounds, he’s crazy. I finished him, outstruck him, took him down, finished him in the third round. He says he won the first round, I outstruck him 61 strikes to zero, and there was 20 seconds left. That’s crazy stats.

“Yeah, he got me in that second round until I got a takedown – I don’t even know why we started discussing this. I mean, the man’s in a downward spiral. Hopefully this coaching gig works out for him, but from what he saw on how easy it would be to beat me, why didn’t he do it? It’s so easy to see, why didn’t he do it?”

Du Plessis’ jab on Till’s takedown defense is in reference to Till’s most recent boxing outing. Till defeated Mohammad Mutie by TKO at Social Knockout 3 in July, where a brawl broke out after the fight. During the scuffle, Till was taken down by Mutie.
