'Told me everything': top cop reflects on darkest hour

Victoria's police commissioner has described the moment he learned two officers had been murdered in a tragedy that marked one of the force's darkest days.

Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart were killed just before midday on August 26, 2025 while serving a warrant on Dezi Freeman at his remote property in Victoria's high country.
