Prosecutors seek the death penalty for 50 of the 51 men on trial over May's coup attempt in DR Congo. About half a dozen of the defendants are foreign nationals, including three Americans.

Finally, doctors in Nigeria have gone on a week-long strike to put pressure on security agencies to do more to free a kidnapped colleague. Dr Ganiyat Popoola has been held for eight months now since she, her husband and nephew were taken from her home. Her husband was released but the others are still being held.
