Warriors forward Draymond Green will be suspended for five games after putting Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a chokehold Tuesday night during a skirmish.
The league announced the suspension on Wednesday night. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was first with the news.
Additionally Gobert, Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels, all of whom were also involved in the skirmish, will be fined $25,000 each.
The altercation started before either team even scored a point. While running down the court in the first quarter after a Minnesota miss, Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels began to go at it and things turned violent. Several players tried to break the two up, including Gobert. While Gobert was trying to separate the two, Green came from behind and put Gobert in a chokehold before dragging him away from the initial altercation.
Despite the two being nowhere near the skirmish and Gobert not fighting back with his hands in the air, Green refused to let go. He continued to drag Gobert while several Timberwolves players and Warriors coaches tried to get Green to let him go.
