Dramatic rescue operation days after boat sinks in Indonesia

  • A passenger boat, the KM Nurul Salsa, sank off Indonesia 's South Sulawesi coast five days ago after suffering engine failure , with 20 people still missing.
  • The vessel was carrying 78 passengers and crew members when it sank approximately 79km from Selayar Island on Wednesday.
  • Initially, 47 people were rescued on the day of the incident, and one person was confirmed dead.
  • Seven additional survivors were found over the weekend, with five clinging to a fish trap on Saturday and two, a mother and son, found stranded on Balaloho island on Sunday.
  • Rescue operations are ongoing, involving over 200 workers, but are hampered by extremely harsh weather conditions, including high waves and strong winds.
