Dramatic moment soldier collapses on steps of St Paul's at Queen's Jubilee service

A soldier was seen collapsing on the steps outside of St Paul's Cathedral ahead of the service of thanksgiving for the Queen.

The incident shortly happened just before the royals arrived at the service this morning. The Royal Air Force soldier did not seem to be severely injured and was helped onto his feet by nearby colleagues, the Mirror reports.

As politicians began arriving at St Paul's for the service, video footage captured the soldier collapsing right before foreign secretary Liz Truss walked up the steps and entered the church. As the soldier was helped to his feet, crowds began to gather around to watch the string of famous faces enter the cathedral.

Associate editor of the Telegraph posted on Twitter: "A soldier has just keeled over, received medical attention and is now back on his feet with a cheer." Meanwhile, it seems the prime minister was booed and whistled at by the crowds as he headed up the steps.

Following the incident was the arrival of the royals, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with the Queen missing out on the service due to experiencing 'discomfort' during yesterday's celebrations. A statement issued by Buckingham Palace on Thursday evening said: "The Queen greatly enjoyed today's birthday parade and flypast but did experience some discomfort.

"Taking into account the journey and activity required to participate in tomorrow's National Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral, Her Majesty, with great reluctance, has concluded that she will not attend."

As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at the cathedral shortly after 11am, crowds could be heard cheering for them. Meghan was sporting a sharp cream dress with a matching hat. However, one crowd member, could be heard shouting at the royal couple: “I don’t know how you’ve got the nerve to show up.”

Shortly after, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived, however, they were not accompanied by Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte. Meanwhile, Prince Charles and Camilla also arrived for the special occasion alongside some former prime ministers such as Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Theresa May.
