Drake has sparked speculation he’s taking a subtle swipe at ex-girlfriends including Rihanna and Rita Ora via the lyrics of a new song.
The 35-year-old Canadian rapper was in an on-off romance with Rihanna from 2009 until 2016, and reportedly enjoyed a brief romance with 31-year-old Rita in 2012.
Lyrics in a song called Texts Go Green highlight past romantic struggles – although the music star doesn’t name names in his tune.
Instead, he raps: “If I was in your shoes, I would hate myself/ Left all this behind to be with someone else, oh/ Why should I fake it anymore?”
He continues: “Texts go green, it hits a little different, don’t it? Know you miss the days when I was grippin’ on it/ Know you’re in a house tonight just thinkin’ on it/ I moved on so long ago.”
One fan suggested the new song is a sequel to a previous tune released by DRake that was a farewell to his romance with recent new mum Riri, 34.
The fan tweeted: "Rihanna really did our man Drake bad. Texts Go Green is just Take Care pt 2."
And another fan tweeted: "Rihanna need to be on Texts Go Green, but I feel like it’s about her."
Meanwhile, Drake announced in a lengthy statement released at the same time as his new album, Honestly, Nevermind, which was released on Friday, where he discussed living in the spotlight.
He declared: “I can’t remember the last time someone put their phone down, looked me in the eyes and asked my current insight on the times. But I remember every single time some-one shined a light in my eyes.
“I purposely try to forget what went on between some people. Because I know I’m not a forgiving guy even when I try. My urge for revenge wins the game against my good guy inside every single time.
"I got plans I can’t talk about with more than, like, four guys because the last time I shared them with someone on the outside . . . well, that’s another story for another night.”
He added: “I know everyone that tells me they love me doesn’t love me all the time – especially when I’m doing better than all right and they have to watch it from whatever point they at in their life.”
Rihanna and her boyfriend A$AP Rocky – real name 33-year-old Rakim Mayers – became first time parents together last month.
The duo welcomed a son together – although they are yet to reveal the name of their baby boy.
Rihanna herself expressed her excitement at motherhood and said of her child: “They’re going to teach me more than I could ever teach them, and I want them to go for it. I want to see who they are in the world, who they become.”
