The San Francisco 49ers make one of the more controversial decisions of the draft by deciding to fully round out their roster by adding the best special teamer in the draft with the selection of Michigan kicker Jake Moody.
One of the most consistent place kickers in the country over the last two seasons, Moody was the consensus best kicker in this draft class. His clutch kicks were a huge part of the Wolverine’s seasons and Moody has been as consistent as they come, including a 59-yard game-winner in the national semifinal game. During his two years as a starter Moody has nailed 52 of 60 field goals, and has been perfect on extra points during that span.
Moody was obviously drafted to be the starting kicker for the 49ers, and there is little doubt he will open the season as the primary place kicked for one of the best teams in the NFL. If Moody can remain consistent, he could be the long-term solution at the position for the 49ers.
