A disgruntled resident sent a threatening letter and fake bomb through the post after a disagreement over redevelopment plans, a court has heard. Lee Moody warned his victim: "Make your peace with God – I am coming for you" in the letter and this was followed up by an apparent parcel bomb which led to around 100 houses being evacuated and a café and waterway being closed with a village going into virtual lockdown for five hours.
Swansea Crown Court heard that the background to the offence was a proposed regeneration project at Sailors Creek near the village of Flushing in Cornwall. Zoe Kuyken, prosecuting, said in December 2022 Moody, then a resident at Sailors Creek, sent his victim a letter reading "Make your peace with God – I am coming for you" using words cut out from magazines. The letter was illustrated with pictures of a man with an axe and a house on fire.
Two weeks later a parcel was sent to the same person in the village of Flushing containing a hoax bomb. Police and bomb disposal experts were alerted and around 100 houses had to be evacuated while a nearby café and the waterway were closed and a cordon was put in place. The court heard a Royal Naval bomb expert initially determined the package had "elements of an IED" (improvised explosive device) but a subsequent examination found it to be a fake not a viable device.
