In a recent interview, Doug Jones, the actor who portrays Captain Saru in Star Trek: Discovery, expressed his excitement about the upcoming series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Jones believes that his character could potentially cross over into the new show, bringing his wisdom and instructional ways to a class of young cadets.
Starfleet Academy is set in the same timeline as the latter seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, taking place in the 32nd century. As the Federation reconnects with its former member worlds after the devastating event known as the Burn, Starfleet finds itself in need of rebuilding with a new generation of cadets. Although no official casting details have been announced, Lt. Sylvia Tilly, played by Mary Wiseman, has already transitioned from serving on the USS Discovery to becoming an instructor at the Academy, hinting at her involvement in the new series.
