Double rapist worked at Loch Lomond boarding school when he attacked sleeping victim

A double rapist who worked at a private school by Loch Lomond when he carried out his first sickening attack has been jailed.

James Easdale was sentenced to seven years in prison earlier this month at the High Court in Glasgow for charges including two counts of rape on the same victim.

It has now transpired that the 46 year-old was employed as an IT technician at fee-paying Lomond School in Helensburgh when he first attacked the sleeping woman and sent indecent messages to various victims.

A source at the school told the Daily Record that fellow staff and pupils had been left "absolutely shocked" by the news.

Easdale, from Cardross, first attacked his victim at a property in Rosneath in June of 2018. Prosecutors said he raped the woman while she was sleeping and “incapable of giving consent” to sex.

He raped the same woman again in March 2019.

The second attack saw Easdale pin the woman’s arms above her head, restrain her and pull down her clothes.

He had denied the charges but found guilty at an earlier trial and jailed by judge Lady Drummond.

He was also found guilty of communicating indecently with two other women between 2016 and 2019, with charges saying he “repeatedly uttered sexual remarks” to the victims.

In 2015, Easdale started working at Lomond School, which provides education and boarding to girls and boys from nursery to senior 6 and describes itself as having a “strong family ethos”.

He remained there for several years and is understood to have left his employment in November 2018 - four months before committing the second attack.

A source at the school said staff were not informed that charges had been brought after Easdale’s employment ended. He was required to undergo disclosure checks, which he passed prior to working there.

They said: “Even though he left the school five years ago everyone is absolutely shocked at his abhorrent behaviour.”

Another source close to the case said parents who send their children to the school - which charges more than £36,000 a year for full boarding and tuition - would be horrified.

They said: “People were paying tens of thousands of pounds a year to send their children there to learn alongside him. This information should be known to the public.”

When released, Easdale will be supervised for a further three years. He has also been added to the sex offenders’ register.

The Lomond School were approached for comment.
