Swansea City are expected to miss out on loan deals for Manchester City pair James McAtee and Josh Wilson-Esbrand.
The Swans have long been admirers of attacker McAtee and have held talks with the 19-year-old's representatives over a potential deal until the end of the 2021/22 season.
They also enquired about left-back Wilson-Esbrand prior to the window.
However, a recruitment source has told WalesOnline that the reigning Premier League champions are now likely to keep both McAtee and Wilson-Esbrand in their first team squad for the remainder of the campaign - providing that they do not further strengthen their squad imminently.
It was hoped that McAtee would sign a new contract before being loaned out to a Championship club - with Man City seeing Swansea as the perfect fit for the next phase of the Englishman's development.
But Guardiola's side are now expected to keep the highly-rated playmaker in their ranks for the foreseeable future. Sporting director Mark Allen - who previously worked at Man City - would be key in any dealings with the Premier League leaders.
McAtee has been included in his side's last three Premier League matchday squads, with Wilson-Esbrand - who is described as a "powerful, marauding left-back" on the club's official website - also being listed among the substitutes against Chelsea and Southampton.
McAtee has reportedly attracted interest from a host of clubs including Leicester City and Aston Villa while Rangers are also said to be exploring the option of clinching a loan deal for the Man City starlet.
He scored the winner for City's Under-23s against Chelsea on Monday, a game in which Wilson-Esbrand was withdrawn due to injury after just 16 minutes.
Guardiola has cited Phil Foden as an example of how McAtee - who is eager to play elsewhere on loan in the short-term - can develop by staying at the Etihad Stadium.
Swansea have two key areas in which they are now determined to bolster before Monday's 11pm transfer deadline.
They are in desperate need of a left wing-back while they also hope to bring in a striker, having allowed Liam Cullen and Morgan Whittaker to join Lincoln City on loan this month.
Yan Dhanda is poised to leave the club while Jamie Paterson and Jay Fulton could yet depart, although it appears increasingly likely - barring a dramatic late twist, most likely on deadline day - that the latter two will remain in south Wales.
Defender Brandon Cooper is also among those who could secure a loan move away from Swansea in the final days of the window.
