Double demerits weren't enough to deter some ACT motorists, with 20 drivers caught breaking the law on Thursday.
Double demerits are in place until midnight on Monday and also apply to all mobile phone offences.
A total of 18 drivers were detected using their phones by ACT Policing officers on Thursday.
Officers also targeted people who chose to drink and drive, with one team conducting 235 random breath tests. Three offences were detected, all at least twice the legal limit, with one driver registering 0.146, almost three times the legal limit.
The highest speed recorded by police on Thursday was 130km/h in the 80km/h zone on Horse Park Drive, Harrison.
A 28-year-old man from the suburb of Ngunnawal, on a probationary licence, received a fine of $1841 and 12 demerit points, suspending his right to drive in the ACT.
Meanwhile, police responded to six collisions in Canberra, most caused by people not driving to the conditions. Drivers have been reminded to slow down, and allow more time than usual to complete their journey during the Easter period.
Double demerit point periods will be in place until midnight Monday, and include all mobile phone, speeding, seatbelt, and riding without a helmet offences. All other traffic offences will incur one additional demerit point.
