Double-decker electric AC bus service from September 28: Gorakhpur-Maharajganj passengers get a new travel option; here’s all you need to know

Passengers travelling between Gorakhpur and Maharajganj will soon have a new public transport option, with a double-decker AC electric bus service set to begin on the route from September 28. The service will be introduced after a successful trial run on Friday, according to roadways officials.

Gorakhpur-Maharajganj electric bus service: What to know

The new double-decker electric bus is expected to increase passenger capacity on the Gorakhpur-Maharajganj route while providing an air-conditioned and relatively affordable travel option. Officials said the service will also support the shift towards cleaner public transport and reduce dependence on conventional fuel.

A similar AC electric double-decker bus is already operating on the Gorakhpur-Kasya route, officials said.

Three double-decker electric buses added to Gorakhpur depot

The Gorakhpur depot has added three double-decker electric buses to its fleet. The move is aimed at meeting rising passenger demand and expanding environment-friendly transport options in the region.

Roadways officials said improved connectivity between Gorakhpur and Maharajganj could also help daily commuters and support tourism by making travel between the two destinations more convenient.

Gorakhpur AC electric bus network expands

The Gorakhpur depot currently operates around 20 AC electric buses on routes connecting the city with destinations including Ayodhya, Varanasi, Tamkuhiraj, Salempur and Sonauli.

The expansion comes as authorities continue to increase the use of electric buses for intercity and urban transport. In Gorakhpur city, around 25 electric buses are already operating, while another 25 are expected to be added soon.

Uttar Pradesh approves 150 AC electric buses

The state government has also approved 150 air-conditioned electric buses for urban transport services across designated areas. The planned expansion is part of efforts to improve public transport while encouraging cleaner mobility.

With more electric buses being introduced, passengers in and around Gorakhpur are expected to have access to more high-capacity public transport options, including the new double-decker service to Maharajganj from September 28.
