Dota 2 Roster News: BOOM Esports is Now in South America with New Roster

Officially in a new region. (Credit: BOOM Esports)

Dota 2 BOOM Esports revealed the players that's going to be part of its new roster. With this, the team is officially competing in the South America region. In particular, they're going to be based in Peru.

Before we look into the roster, let's take a quick look into what happened before. BOOM was established back in November 2016 and based in Indonesia. However, it was in 2018 that the team had a complete roster of players from Indonesia. They've have had some good performance over the years though it can be best described as not that consistent. We say that because while the team have been doing well, most of it was one Tier 3 tournaments. The team's best finishes would be a 9th-12th place at The International 2022, 7th-8th place finish at the PGL Arlington Major 2022, and declared champion at the GAMERS GALAXY: Invitational Series Dubai 2022.

Now some of you are probably wondering what happened in 2022 for the team to do really well. That's because the team had a really strong roster which included the likes of Souliya "JaCkky" Khoomphetsavong, Erin Jasper "Yopaj" Ferrer and Timothy John "TIMS" Randrup. Sadly, they weren't able to retain some of the players who left to join other teams. For the 2023 DPC Season, the new roster started out in Division I before being relegated to Division II by Tour 2. They were able to climb back to Division I by Tour 3. The problem was if Valve continued with this format, BOOM would have started the new season in Division II.

New Roster

A roster was actually announced back in November 2022, with one of them being Christian "Pakazs" Savina, who was from Evil Geniuses. However, it turns out that this was all a trial period and with the exception of Pakazs, the rest were let go. However, it didn't take long for the team to sign new players to the roster. The first two announced last week was Mario Romero "ILICH-" Valdivia and Rodrigo "n1ght" Cruz. A little while later it was revealed that Jose "Panda" Padilla was also added to the roster with Juan David "Vintage" Angulo Nicho named as coach.

A Wise Decision

Some of those may be wondering why the need to move to a new region. However, when you stop and think about it, it's a really wise decision. The competition is rather fierce in Southeast Asia.

Now we're not saying it's not as competitive in South America. But the reality is that there are a few teams that are dominant, and it may be a bit "easier" to qualify for The International.

What do you think? Is this a good move by BOOM Esports?
