PepsiCo makes surprising move with irresistible snack food brand

Although prepackaged snacks might not be the healthiest food option, they always satisfy cravings for a crunchy, savory treat. 

Chips could be considered some of the most addicting foods out there, causing many to consume an entire bag in just one sitting. With so many options to choose from, it's impossible not to like at least one.

According to a study by Worldmetrics, Americans consume over 1.85 billion pounds of chips yearly, with Frito-Lay commanding over 60% of the chip market.

Doritos forms part of the Frito-Lay brand, owned by PepsiCo, one of the largest American food, snack, and beverage corporations worldwide.

As part of such a popular snack corporation, recently under fire over shrinkflation, it is no surprise that Doritos is the top-selling brand for flavored tortilla chips in the U.S., as reported in the same previous study. 

According to PepsiCo's Q3 earnings report for 2024, Frito-Lay is the second-most profitable brand in its portfolio, generating quarterly revenues of $5.9 million.

Doritos announces a new and unique experience for customers

Over the weekend, PepsiCo  (PEP) , the parent company to the snack brand Doritos, announced it would open its first-ever Doritos After Dark restaurant at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif. 

This Doritos restaurant aims to elevate Mexican and East Asian cuisine by adding Doritos flavor to every food and drink item offered, whether it be sweet desserts, savory dishes, or boozy cocktails

To access the Doritos After Dark restaurant, customers must purchase a ticket to a scheduled event at the Crypto.com Arena.

However, for those who don't want to purchase a ticket to a Crypto.com Arena event, the brand will also host a free Doritos Night Market pop-up on Nov. 15 for one night only at Peacock Place in Los Angeles, CA. 

The food offerings at both the restaurant and single-night pop-up include Doritos' take on the classic tequila margarita, a ramen-filled burrito, nacho-filled dumplings, classic loaded nachos, and a unique vanilla cone.  

"The Doritos brand is known for pushing boundaries and paving new paths. The food and alcoholic beverages offered at the new Doritos After Dark restaurant were created with the consumer in mind and take delicious fan favorites up a notch with the boldness and flair only Doritos flavors can deliver," said Frito-Lay's Culinary Senior Principal Scientist Wiley Bates.

Doritos customers react to the brand's announcement

After the announcement was made about the opening of the Doritos After Dark restaurant, customers quickly reacted to the news and took to social media to show their excitement.

TikTok users flooded the creator's comments section with one stating, "All that stuff look GASSSS. I pray they open more!!!"

Even a skeptical user admitted to wanting to try the menu items by commenting, "I'm very skeptical but absolutely want to try it." 

Other users expressed their desire to have more Doritos restaurants open in locations closer to them.

One user commented, "Ugh why does that have to be on the literal opposite side of the country for me... cuz I would make a day trip for that lol."

Another customer stated, "This is sooo cool! I wish I lived in LA."
