Dooho Choi excited to show off improvements at UFC Fight Night 218 after three-year layoff

LAS VEGAS – It has been a long time since Dooho Choi stepped into the UFC’s octagon, but he’s excited to get back to action.

The always-exciting Choi (14-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC) returns to competition after a three-year layoff to face Kyle Nelson on the main card of UFC Fight Night 218 at the UFC Apex.

During his time away, Choi says he has been focusing on getting better as a fighter. After a series of tough results, “The Korean Superboy” is eager to prove he belongs with the best in the division by getting past Nelson (13-5 MMA, 1-4 UFC) in their featherweight bout.

“I’m excited to compete,” Choi told reporters at Wednesday’s media day. “I got really strong over the three years, and I’ve been improving my skills. So, I’m excited to prove myself on Saturday.”

In his last three outings, Choi walked away with a Fight of the Night bonus in his tough battles with Charles Jourdain, Jeremy Stephens, and a UFC Hall of Fame bout against Cub Swanson.

Despite the extra money and prestigious HOF honor, Choi came away from each bout with three losses on his record. He aims to correct course and get back to his winning ways by stopping Nelson.

“I’m not taking him lightly,” Choi said. He’s a veteran, but I’m going to go in there and finish him. … I’m not going to chase for the finish, but if I carry out my gameplan, the finish is going to be there.”
