Donny van de Beek sends message after Manchester United's win over FC Sheriff

Manchester United enjoyed a routine evening in the win over FC Sheriff - a result that confirms their place in the next stage of the Europa League.

The 3-0 Old Trafford success saw Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo all register on the scoresheet. The win means Erik ten Hag's side are guaranteed at least second spot in the group, which would mean a two-legged tie against a side that drops out of the Champions League.

However, if United win by a two-goal margin or more against current leaders Real Sociedad next Thursday then they will go straight through to the round of 16. Given the likes of Barcelona, Sevilla, Juventus and Ajax are likely to be in the group of clubs coming down from the Champions League, the latter option would be the preferred route for Ten Hag.

The win over Sheriff was as comfortable as could have been hoped for and Dalot was a surprise inclusion on the scoresheet. The Portuguese has been a steady presence at right-back this season, making the position his own and starting every game since Ten Hag arrived in Manchester. The 23-year-old's near-post header opened the scoring and set United on their way.

Dalot posted a picture of him celebrating a rare strike on social media afterwards, with the caption: "Old Trafford is special" alongside a love heart emoji.

He wasn't the only United star to react on social media. Marcus Rashford posted on Instagram, and after notching his sixth goal of the season, wrote: "Great support from the fans tonight as always. Happy to grab a goal and contribute to the victory."

Donny van de Beek, who enjoyed his first run-out since August with a late cameo, wrote: "Feels good to be back and to play in front of the Stretford End again."
