Donald Trump's Paris Muslim City Prediction Clashes With French Protesters' Demands on Schools and Prices

Protests over schools and living costs turned violent, fuelling US debate on migration and identity (Credit: Photo: Gage Skidmore/Wikimedia Commons CC BY 2.0)

US President Donald Trump has claimed Paris is on course to become a 'Muslim city', blaming immigration for France's recent unrest. His remarks sit uneasily beside reports from France, which say the October 2026 demonstrations were driven primarily by anger over school conditions, public services and the rising cost of living.

The protests, which escalated into violence and looting on Saturday, 17 October, followed weeks of student-led marches. Participants raised concerns about overcrowded classrooms, deteriorating school buildings, education funding and household budgets stretched by higher prices.
