Donald Trump would have been convicted for attempting to interfere with the 2020 US election result if he had not been re-elected, a report by a top prosecutor has concluded.

US Special Counsel Jack Smith said that Mr Trump had engaged in an "unprecedented criminal effort" to hold on to power after losing to Joe Biden.
