Donald Trump would be welcome in Scotland if US president, Stephen Flynn says

DONALD Trump would be welcome in Scotland if he becomes US president, Stephen Flynn has said.

Following the general election leaders’ debate between Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer, the SNP Westminster leader was asked whether Trump would be welcome in Scotland if he wins in November.

“Yes,” he responded.

It comes after Trump became the first former US president to be convicted of felony crimes last week.

He was found guilty of falsifying business records in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 election through hush money payments to an adult movie actress who said the two had sex.

Scottish Greens MSP Ross Greer hit out at the comments.

“A Trump presidency would be catastrophic for America, for the climate and for global democracy,” he said.

“He stirs up hatred against vulnerable people wherever he goes. If the SNP think he's welcome here, they're not speaking for Scotland.”
