Some of Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees and administration appointments have been targeted in “violent threats to their lives”, according to the president-elect’s transition team.
The incidents ranged from bomb threats to “swatting”, which involves making hoax calls to send police or other emergency service response teams to another person’s address, Trump-Vance transition spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, she said: Last night and this morning, several of President Trump’s Cabinet nominees and Administration appointees were targeted in violent, unAmerican threats to their lives and those who live with them.
“These attacks ranged from bomb threats to ‘swatting’.
“In response, law enforcement and other authorities acted quickly to ensure the safety of those who were targeted.
“President Trump and the entire Transition team are grateful for their swift action.”
Ms Leavitt did not say who exactly was targeted, and did not elaborate on the nature of the apparent threats. Spokespeople for the FBI and the Justice Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
“With President Trump as our example, dangerous acts of intimidation and violence will not deter us,” it concluded.
Trump has been announcing picks for his cabinet and other high-ranking administration positions following his November 5 election victory.
He has not commented on the apparent threats.
They come months after Trump was wounded on an ear in an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania in July. In a separate incident, a man was charged with attempted assassination in September after allegedly positioning himself with a rifle outside one of Trump's Florida golf courses.
