Following discussions between Vladimir Putin and US special envoy Steve Witkoff, the Kremlin announced that Donald Trump and the Russian president would talk about the proposal for a 30-day truce in Ukraine.

In late-night negotiations in Moscow on Thursday, Mr Putin sent Mr Witkoff "signals" that he "supported" the White House's stance on a ceasefire.
