Former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton does not think Allan Saint-Maximin would fit into Spurs side and therefore cannot see them paying £40 million for his signature. The Athletic reported earlier this month that Spurs have made initial enquiries over a move for Saint-Maximin, but Newcastle’s £40 million valuation is said to have put them off.
Spurs have already been busy in the window so far and have spent heavily to strengthen their attacking options with the addition of Richarlison from Everton. They already boast Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura, making the signing of Saint-Maximin unlikely.
The Frenchman has also been linked with Chelsea this summer but at this stage looks likely to stay at St. James’ Park. Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton admitted he would be surprised if Spurs spent another £40 million on Saint-Maximin given their current options and is also unsure whether he would suit Antonio Conte’s style.

He said: “I don’t think they need him to be quite blunt about it. I watched them against Rangers, their front three are excellent.
"They had Richarlison on the bench, they have Lucas Moura, they’ve got options there. Antonio Conte plays a particular way, it’s structured, everybody has to be fit, everybody has to be running and do their bit.
“Saint-Maximin is a bit of a maverick, he just gets on the ball and does what he wants to do. I don’t think you can get away with that in an Antonio Conte team now. £40m for a guy I don’t think they need to I’d be surprised if that did actually happen.“
