‘Don’t get lost’: Louisiana woman’s road trip takes terrifying turn with strange repeated warnings, after which she mysteriously lost 9 minutes

Lauren was on a routine road trip from Louisiana to Fayetteville, Tennessee. She was alone, heading for a funeral. Then, a single stop at a rest stop took what was meant to be a quiet journey with time for herself, into something so weird that it has lived rent-free in her head since. Her story, featured in a TikTok video by ashleeinc, as part of her Spooky Scary series, has viewers buzzing as people try to make sense of the bizarre incident.

The trip took place in November 2025. It was all normal until she entered Alabama around 4 pm. She spotted a sign for a rest area and decided to pull in, despite it being empty and thus, creepy. The main reason was that the next one wouldn’t appear for roughly 34 miles. Thankfully, two other cars pulled in, and she quickly spotted a security guard, which put her at ease.

After using the restroom and a quick stroll, Lauren headed back to her car around 4:21 p.m. That is when she ran into a man in his 50s as she held the door for him. They made some small talk as they walked together back to the car. That’s when he suddenly looked at the trees and said, “It’s gonna be dark soon, so don’t get lost.”

It was good advice, or even a great well-wish, at first

Lauren got to her car and noticed he was headed to a red car parked three spaces away. A woman was there with the hood propped up, seemingly working on the engine. Lauren offered to help, but the man gave her a serious look and declined. He repeated his warning, saying, “Promise me that you won’t get lost.” As she drove away with her window cracked, she heard him shout, “Don’t get lost,” one final time.

The repetition is what got to her, so as soon as she hit the highway, she tried to call her best friend to discuss it with her. However, the call quickly distorted. Despite having full bars, there was static and echoes before the call dropped. When she finally reconnected, she had to use an AirPod because her phone had mysteriously disconnected from her car’s Bluetooth.

This Spooky Scary Storytime/glitch in the matrix story came from Lauren: “In November 2025, I stopped at a nearly empty Alabama rest area on my way to a funeral. A stranger looked me dead in the eyes and said: “Be safe. Don’t get lost.” I then lost almost 9 minutes of driving time with no explanation after seeing the same stranger fly by on the interstate in the opposite direction. My friend heard the phone distortion too. I still think about that warning.” #UnexplainedStories #paranormal #TrueScaryStory

According to the call logs, there was a three-minute gap where the call dropped. However, Lauren realized she had actually lost about nine minutes of driving time that she simply could not account for.

The mystery deepened when she saw the same red car flying by her in the opposite direction, heading back toward the rest stop. She estimated they were moving at least 90 mph, which was shocking since she had her cruise control set to 70 mph and they had been stationary in the parking lot just moments before.

Even stranger, she noticed that the stretch of interstate she was driving on didn’t have any exits, gas stations, or signage, save for one Love’s gas station. When she traveled back through that same stretch of road, it was completely different. It was confusing to say the least, and while she might have attributed it to something else, her best friend had been on the phone to corroborate some of her experience.

The story has sparked plenty of theories. One commenter even noted that the area near Eutaw, Alabama, near Exit 40, has caused similar feelings of disorientation for other drivers.

Lauren said that she intends to remain kind to strangers, but she plans to pay much closer attention to any urgent warnings she might receive in the future, no matter how odd they seem at the time. After all, you often see a lot of strange things, strange faces in your ring camera, or shadows in your mirror, and you never know what might actually be real.
