Spy paid a visit to Bloomberg’s shiny City offices this week to find out about new AI features coming to the terminals widely used by traders.
They all look pretty impressive, Spy told the firm’s CTO Shawn Edwards, after his talk, but why does the terminal’s interface still look so – how can I put this – retro?
“We purposely make it retro,” Edwards said. “We have customers that when we change just a little bit of the terminal, they scream bloody murder.”
He cited a tiny recent update in which the colour of a banner in the programme was changed. That process alone took the design team several months.
“Every week they changed the colour gradient ever so slightly, and no one complained. But after six months, people are like, ‘this is great.’”
Top marks for attention to detail.
