Don Cowie refuses to pin Ross County vs Rangers loss blame on Jack Hamilton

Ross County manager Don Cowie refused to pin the defeat to Rangers on goalkeeper Jack Hamilton's major blunder.

The Dingwall boss admitted he and his goalkeeper - in for Ross Laidlaw - were bitterly disappointed by the manner of the second goal as Hamilton dallied and gifted Danilo a tap-in.

However, Cowie insisted he won't allow the shot-stopper to dwell on the moment after a promising return to the first-team.

"Well, he's disappointed in terms of the manner the goal," said the County boss of Hamilton's error. "I don't think that was the reason we lost the game.

"I think he played really well,  apart from that one moment. And so we're not going to get too caught up in it.

"It's an error that could be from maybe the lack of game time he has had in the last five or six months, so he maybe just got caught out in terms of the tempo, maybe thought he had a bit more time than he did. It happens.

"And he showed really good character throughout the whole game, considering little football he has played."

Cowie was pleased with his side's display in the second period but was left ruing the inability to punish Rangers when the opportunity to strike arose.

Reflecting on the result and performance, he said: "I think, which I speak about all the time, when you're playing a top quality team, when it's 1-0, we conceded really early.

"It's important to try and keep it, keep yourself in the game for as long as possible.

"And I thought we had done that, and then we concede a really sloppy second goal, which makes it, a real challenge at that time.

"Then at half-time, it was about, can we get an opportunity or a goal to get our momentum and make it difficult for Rangers.

"And we had a couple of little moments from a set play, Akil Wright probably should score. You need to take them moments.

"We didn't, and then it just meant that we didn't really manage to get any momentum, to put them under pressure."
