Dolphins worked out 7 free agents on Tuesday

The Miami Dolphins, after losing to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, returned to South Florida where they held tryouts for seven different free agents on Tuesday.

While general manager Chris Grier hasn’t pulled the trigger on any of them yet, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the team ink one of them to a deal in the coming days or after the season ends on a futures/reserve contract.

Here’s a quick look at all seven players the Dolphins hosted:

Alarcón, 25, was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of ITESM in 2020 as a member of the league’s International Player Pathway Program coming from Mexico.

He’s never played in a regular season game, but he was a fan favorite on “Hard Knocks” a few years back. This past offseason, he did try to move to defensive line, so it’s unclear where Miami tried him.

DE T.J. Carter

Carter, 25, went undrafted out of Kentucky in 2020 and was signed by the Arizona Cardinals. He spent his first two years between Arizona, the New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers.

In 2022, he played for the Michigan Panthers of the USFL. He recorded 24 tackles and 2.5 sacks in nine games.

Carter played in two games with the Rams over the last two years but didn’t record a stat.

Holmes, 25, went undrafted this past year out of Baylor and signed with the Tennessee Titans. He was released during roster cuts.

At Baylor, Holmes recorded 72 catches for 927 yards and seven touchdowns in 31 games.

Nixon, 25, was a 2021 fifth-round pick by the Carolina Panthers after a collegiate career split between Iowa Western and Iowa.

He played in 14 games over his first two seasons with Carolina, recording 15 tackles and a half-sack. After he was released by the Panthers, he spent a week with the Seattle Seahawks.

OL Jason Poe

Poe, 25, was undrafted in 2022 after a collegiate career where he played at Hutchinson Community College, Lenoir-Rhyne and Mercer. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers and spent his rookie season on the practice squad. He was released ahead of the 2023 season and signed with the New York Jets practice squad before he was cut in November.

Sexton, 26, played collegiately at Eastern Michigan before going undrafted in 2020. He spent his rookie offseason with the Pittsburgh Steelers and his second year with the Kansas City Chiefs.

He played with the Vegas Viper of the XFL in 2023, recording 23 receptions for 326 yards in eight games.

This year, he split time with the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots.

OT B.J. Wilson

Wilson, 25, was signed by the Carolina Panthers this past offseason as an undrafted free agent out of Quincy University, becoming the first player from the school to make the NFL. In college, he was All-Conference in his last three seasons.

Wilson was waived before the start of the regular season.
