Dolphins’ 2023 training camp preview: WR Tyreek Hill

The Miami Dolphins have wrapped up their rookie minicamp, organized team activities and mandatory minicamps and will return to the Baptist Health Training Complex near the end of July to prepare for the 2023 regular season.

Before that, we’ll be going through the majority of Miami’s roster to preview their background, projected role and bottom line with the team entering training camp.

After looking at the top three quarterbacks and two running backs on the roster, we’ll move on to the team’s most accomplished wide receiver – Tyreek Hill.

Hill was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2016 draft after a collegiate career that spanned Garden City Community College, Oklahoma State and West Alabama.

In his first six seasons, Hill recorded 479 receptions for 6,630 yards and 56 touchdowns with the Chiefs. He made six Pro Bowls and three All-Pro teams during that time.

In March 2022, Hill was traded to Miami for five draft picks, and he was immediately given a four-year extension, making him the highest-paid wideout in the league.

Despite no longer playing with Patrick Mahomes, Hill set career highs in receptions (119) and receiving yards (1,710) in his first season with the Dolphins.

Expected Role

Hill came in last year and was immediately the top option on the field for Tua Tagovailoa, and he’s expected to fill that exact same role in 2023. Obviously, Tagovailoa has a connection with his college and pro teammate Jaylen Waddle, but Hill’s talent is extremely impressive, making him the team’s number-one wide receiver.

Bottom Line

Hill is one of the best wide receivers in the league due to his speed and athleticism. Earlier in the offseason, he stated that he wasn’t very familiar with the team’s playbook, and he was relying on that athleticism to get him through the league.

Now, with a full year in the system and another offseason of work in Mike McDaniel’s scheme, Hill is aiming for 2,000 yards which would break Calvin Johnson’s record (1,964 yards) set back in 2012.

As crazy as it sounds, if Tagovailoa and Hill stay healthy, that goal is achievable.
