Dolly Parton's personal twist on a centuries-old storage method taps into a design trend that will be huge in 2025 – it makes her space cozy and rustic

Dolly Parton.

We love decor, and we love storage solutions, so when an idea comes along that combines both, we're incredibly pleased. All the better when that inspiration comes from Dolly Parton.

The iconic singer shared a picture of her Thanksgiving dinner table with her sister in her gorgeous farmhouse dining room. Though her red and white china looks beautiful on her table, where the dishes really shine is on the artful cabinet behind the sisters. Though china cabinets have been a staple of dining room decor for centuries, Dolly's is personalized in two distinct ways. First, it is upcycled with a gorgeous hand-painted floral design that mirrors the design on her plates. Second, it features open-concept storage, showing her plates off for all to see.

The hand-painted nature of Parton's cabinet is a huge interior design trend for the coming year. Eco-friendly paint company Thorndown found that the search term ‘upcycled furniture’ has soared this season, leaping from 29 index points to 100 in just a week. Caroline Thornborough, Design Director stated: 'As we head into another winter, worries about the cost of living are at the fore. That, combined with a rising interest in sustainability, drives people to get more creative and give upcycling a go.' Parton's gorgeous design elevates her space and makes it much more unique.

The open-concept design of the dining room storage is also an emerging trend. From the home of Anne Hathaway to Courteney Cox to Eva Mendes, it's a look that we've spotted in some of the most high-profile eating spaces in the world. Megan Slack, Head of Celebrity Style at Homes & Gardens states: 'As we have moved away from minimalism and towards more personalized interiors, open shelving has become an increasingly popular look. Not only does the trend allow you to bring your unique design style to any space, but it's easy to switch out when you grow bored of the style.'

To replicate Parton's design style, we recommend starting by purchasing a beautiful dinnerware set that sparks joy every time you see it. Then, arrange the dishes at varying heights and angles across your open shelves, as seen in the icon's dining room. As for the china cabinet, try purchasing something vintage or pre-owned to give it that extra unique feel. Personalize in whatever way you see fit.

It's time that we started thinking of decor and storage in tandem, and Parton's upcycled China cabient is the perfect place to start.
