Dolly Parton's morning routine revealed - and country star starts her day at 3am

Dolly Parton has revealed her morning routine and has admitted she is such an early riser she starts her day at 3am.

The singer-songwriter said she doesn’t need much sleep, and that if she wakes up naturally, she finds herself wanting to get up and start work because she has “so much to do”.

Speaking to RuPaul Charles for Marie Claire, Dolly said: “I’m a very, very, very early riser. I’m always, almost always up for good around 3am.”

She went on to say that while she goes to bed early, she is ‘up and down’ and feels she doesn’t need much sleep, aiming for between three to five hours per night, preferring the latter.

The music star said she fills her time with work, stating: “If I wake up and I’m pretty well awake, I think, ‘I’ve got so much to do,’ I’ll get up and I’ll work a little while, write a little while, and I’ll lay back down.”

Dolly told RuPaul that she starts her day by praying to God, asking him for guidance and thanking him for all the good in her life. Alongside praying, the artist meditates and reads her scriptures.

The singer then follows her meditation session with work, between the hours of 3am and 7am, stating that she does spiritual, business and writing work, including call-ins and writing letters.

She went on to say the work she does in the earlier hours is by far her best, continuing: “I get more work done during that little period of time when the world is calm, energies are down, and I just feel like a farmer. They say the early bird gets the worm. Well, they also get a lot of good ideas too.”

To combat any feelings of tiredness, the star admits to taking a power nap during the day should she need one, and reflects on the meditations and prayers that she started her morning with, should things become chaotic.

She said: “I can just go into that little spot of my own. It’s why I say you need to keep a little spot for yourself and your spiritual self and for God. I gain strength and courage and hope and light and love from that little spot.”
