Dollar Weakness and Tight US Oil Supplies Push Crude Prices Higher

August WTI crude oil (CLQ24) Thursday closed up +0.52 (+0.64%), and Aug RBOB gasoline (RBQ24) closed up +1.44 (+0.58%).

Crude oil and gasoline prices posted moderate gains on Thursday.  The slump in the dollar index (DXY00) on Thursday to a 1-month low is bullish for energy prices.  Crude also has carryover support from Wednesday when the EIA reported that weekly US crude inventories unexpectedly declined.  Gains in crude prices were limited after the International Energy Agency's (IEA) monthly report showed global oil demand growth slowed in Q2.
