Aussie fans are letting loose on Doja Cat after she arrived hours late to perform just a handful of songs at a recent pop-up show in Melbourne.
The pop star is currently Down Under to kick off her worldwide tour in support of her latest album Vie, with a sold-out show slated for Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday.
In anticipation of that performance, Doja hosted an impromptu gig at Ms Collins in Melbourne’s CBD on Sunday.
Fans reportedly paid up to $130 for tickets to the show, but were left feeling short-changed when Doja rocked up three hours after her set was scheduled to begin.
Adding insult to injury, the singer apparently played just three songs, in between taking sips of tea and singing fans’ CDs during a brief set that reportedly lasted just 15 minutes.
“Agora Hills”, “Take Me Dancing” and “Jealous Type” were the tracks on Doja’s ultra-brief nightclub setlist in Melbourne.
According to the Herald Sun, the singer explained to the crowd that “losing [her] voice” meant she had to abruptly finish the performance, but that was little consolation for many upset fans.
“Waited four hours at Ms Collins for Doja and she only sang for 10 mins. Im so fucking pissed off,” one attendee said on X, while another wrote, “three songs and so much money later I’m heartbroken.”
After her first Aussie show at Perth’s RAC Arena earlier this week, Doja took to TikTok to reveal she was on vocal rest.
“I want to say thank you for last night, that was fucking amazing … I will be taking care of whatever the fuck happened to my throat last night,” she said in the clip, which she captioned: “Perth was litty”.
It’s not the only drama to have unfolded on Doja’s just-launched tour.
She copped mass backlash during the New Zealand run of shows when fans complained about the lack of outfit changes in her set, prompting a fiery response from the notoriously fiery musician.
“I’m not you fucking costume monkey, I move at my own pace and break my fucking back out there every night so you can keep your opinion to yourself,” Doja wrote in on X.
“You are not the artist, you are the watcher,” she added.
Then, during her Perth show, Doja was seen on stage eating a fan’s sign that read, “Fuck costume changes”. Eating her words or devouring her haters? You decide!
Following her Melbourne show on Tuesday, Doja will take to Brisbane Entertainment Centre on November 29 before wrapping up her Aussie jaunt with two shows in Sydney early next month.
