The US Justice Department has threatened to demolish the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts if a federal court blocks renovation plans that include adding Donald Trump's name to the Washington venue.

In a Monday legal filing, government lawyers warned the historic structure will become a decrepit safety hazard requiring total destruction without immediate intervention.
