Dog Valentine's party in Newcastle is set to see pets enjoy some puppy love

News of a Valentine's party for dogs is set to have tails wagging around Newcastle and those in the mood for some off-lead socialising are in for a day of unlimited treats.

A 'Pup Up Cafe' will open in the city centre on February 12 - just ahead of Valentine's Day - and organisers reckon that pets, and their owners, will love it. The day-long event, being held at Revolution bar, will be a chance for around 50 dogs a time to mingle and there will be lots of photo opportunities to be had in a setting which will feature a Valentine theme to set the mood.

The event follows the success of Pup Up Cafe's summer stop-off in the city with its Dashing Dachshund Tour, which saw more than 200 sausage dogs get together in the bar last August amid a party atmosphere with ball pits and photo booths. Now the company's founder Marcus Ackford is promising more of the same in the special Valentine's event which will be divided into separate time sessions for different breeds.

He said: "This tour is a breed-specific dog Valentine's event with a session for each of the most popular breeds including Dachshunds, Doodles, Pugs and Frenchies." And all of them will get to enjoy unlimited 'puppuccinos' and treats alongside toys and competitions for dogs to win prizes.

Guests will have the whole of Revolution for themselves and their dogs so that the pets can mingle in a safe space and there will be up to 50 dogs per session to socialise with. There also will be a secure, staffed space for the 'off-lead' time. A photographer will be on hand to take pictures and there also will be dog businesses for owners to browse.

Dog social events have become widely popular in recent years and Newcastle is no exception. Another city bar-restaurant, Revolucion de Cuba in the Cloth Market, has previously hosted Pug Cafe events including the likes of a Cockapoo Cafe and even a Dachshund Disco.

The Pup Up Cafe's Valentine's event at Revolution, in Collingwood Street, will run on the day from 10am to 5.30pm. Tickets cost £9.50, or £15 for those keen to attend but not bringing a dog, plus a 50p booking fee.

Tickets for dogs are free but these still need to be booked. For the times of the specific breed sessions and to book see here. More information about how the day will run can be found here.
