A dog owner was left frightened and upset after he found a threatening note attached to the collar of his elderly 14-year-old pooch who had escaped the neighbourhood.
The sick dog, called Baghdad, had the message tied to his collar by a stranger after he made a run for it from his home in Cooloola Cove in Queensland, Australia.
The ominous message left on the dog's collar said: “Please take your dog to [sic] vet. I know where you live."
Baghdad's owner Chris Morris was less than impressed and took to social media to try and figure out who the mystery message was from.
He wrote: “I appreciate that you are concerned for his well being.
"He has non-malignant tumours on his belly and we have taken him into the vets multiple times and have him on medication to manage the problem and to keep him comfortable."
He added: “Perhaps next time you come across him, instead of tying things to him just give him a pat and a treat if you would like.”
Mr Morris explained the tumours were visible as result of the dog's age and Baghdad could not be safely operated on to remove them, which is why they've had to stay.
He wrote: “We are a small community, please don’t jump straight to threatening when you don’t have all the facts. But if you would like to hold that line of approach, the gate’s always open."
His post prompted plenty of responses from fellow dog owners in the area, with most in support of Mr Morris.
“Fifteen is a great age for any dog, so I’m sure he’s much loved,” Caz Bullen commented.
Another pooch owner Pam Smith posted a photo of her own dog Jack, who she said was “very loved and very spoiled” at 18 years old.
“I can’t understand why the person that wrote that note didn’t just go and talk to you seeing as they wrote ‘know where you live’ in a threatening manner,” she added.
