Dog found tied to gate next to busy road with note explaining owners couldn't cope

A poor dog who was left tied to a gate is looking for a new home.

Kilo was found in Huyton, near Liverpool, by Dogs Trust Merseyside after his former family abandoned him near to a busy road having decided they couldn't cope with him anymore.

The brave Staffordshire Bull Terrier was accompanied by his food and water bowls, while a note gave his name and explained his owners could no longer care for him.

He is believed to be around six years old, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The charity's team has been hit hard by the ordeal and are desperate to find Kilo a new forever home.

He is slowly building a bond with the likes of carer Chris Furnell who has been temporarily looking after him.

Kilo is not yet ready to play with toys but is becoming accustomed to having a fuss made of him.

His carers are confident his true personality will eventually begin to shine through if he can find a loving new home.

Charity manager Georgina Lowery said: “It is so sad and shocking when this happens.

"We found him at around 5pm and we are just so grateful that he hadn’t managed to pull himself free, especially as we are near a busy road.

"He is a gorgeous boy but understandably a little nervous given what he has been through. As nobody has come forward to claim him he is now ready to find a new home.

"The fact that Kilo was left with his food bowls and his owners told us his name and left a note, show they cared about him, but we would always urge anyone needing to give up their dog to contact us, however difficult.

"That way we can find out as much as possible about the dog which helps us find them their ideal home as quickly as possible, and of course it means we can avoid unnecessary suffering and distress to the dog."

As no one has turned up to claim Kilo, the team at Dogs Trust are now seeking a new home for the lovable terrier.

They seek an adult only home where he is the only dog and with no visiting children.

They say that whilst he builds his confidence, he will benefit greatly from patient owners who can afford him the space and time to allow him to settle in and trust again.
