Dog and five kittens die in house fire that hospitalised mum and three children

A beloved family dog and five kittens have died in a horror blaze that hospitalised a mother and her young children.

Neighbours were left in shock as a family home was completely destroyed by a fire in the early hours of the morning in Dunfermline last week.

A mum, 31, and her three children managed to escape the house fire but were rushed to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy on Wednesday, April 6, where they remain.

Nothing remains of the family's possessions and tragically the Record can reveal that their pets didn't survive the inferno.

A fundraiser to help the family get back on their feet has already raised £5,000. It has been set up by close family friend Stephanie Gamble.

She said: "We are fundraising to try and raise as much money as possible to get our friend Kayleigh back on her feet after a tragic house fire.

"Thankfully Kayleigh and her three young children managed to escape the house fire alive but with what became life threatening injuries.

"Kayleigh and two of the babies are still currently in the ICU departments.

"Unfortunately her family home is now destroyed, apart from a few small items, nothing was salvageable, this now means Kayleigh needs to start from scratch, all her life possessions are gone including her family dog Lola and five little kittens.

"Kayleigh's family and friends are of course absolutely devested by the incident and would be very grateful and thankful if you could donate to this unfortunate cause."

Emergency services raced to Frederick Crescent, Dunfermline, after 3am today as fire fighters battled flames for three hours.

Photographs of the scene now show the extent of the damage caused to the family home.

Black char marks caused by the flames can be seen covering the home as three windows and the door appear to have caved in.

The family had to escape so quickly that even washing remained on the line in the garden in the days after.
