Dodgers’ Gavin Lux Suffers Knee Injury in Spring Training

Opening Day is still a month away, but the Dodgers received a bad break during Monday’s spring training game against the Padres when shortstop Gavin Lux suffered a serious-looking injury.

Lux was running to third base when he stepped awkwardly with his right leg, causing his knee to buckle. He remained on the ground in pain and was eventually carted off the field.

After the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Lux was undergoing an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

“There’s some fear there. Outside of the knee, [Lux] heard something pop. As a player, you’re thinking the worst,” Roberts said. “Our trainers looked at him, their doctor looked at him and did some tests manually. But we don’t know a whole lot right now.”

Lux, 25, is a former top prospect who finally carved out an everyday role in 2022. He was expected to receive the bulk of starts at shortstop with the departure of Trea Turner this offseason. In 129 games last year, Lux hit .276/.348/.399 with six home runs and 42 RBIs.
