A doctor at the Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza has raised concerns about the critical situation at the facility following a deadly strike in the area. The doctor highlighted that the medical staff are facing extreme exhaustion due to 15 consecutive days of intense work and staying in hospitals.
Dr. Maher Shamiya emphasized the severe shortage of essential medical supplies at the hospital, which has been exacerbated by the recent Israeli strike on Beit Lahia that resulted in the deaths of at least 87 people. Many of the victims were brought to the Kamal Adwan hospital for urgent medical attention.
Shamiya described the challenging conditions under which the medical staff are operating, citing pressure, fear, destruction, and injuries as major factors affecting their ability to provide care effectively. He specifically mentioned the critical shortage of emergency medications and anesthesia supplies, particularly for the operating rooms.
Moreover, the hospital is facing shortages of fuel, water, and food, further complicating the situation. Shamiya pointed out that the ongoing Israeli military operations in the region have essentially placed the area under siege, making it difficult to replenish essential supplies.
The doctor's warning sheds light on the dire circumstances faced by healthcare workers in Gaza, who are struggling to cope with the overwhelming demand for medical services amid a backdrop of limited resources and escalating violence.
