DNA Mumbai, much like Saif Ali Khan doesn’t seem to understand what nepotism actually is (perhaps it’s the water there).
At this point we’re all familiar with the Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan and Khan’s ‘subtle’ jibe at Kangana Ranaut while chanting ‘nepotism rocks’ at the India International Film Academy Awards on Saturday.
We are also, painfully aware of Khan’s Elle magazine interview on the matter, which was Trumpian in its absurdity–Eugenics were involved, as was genetics, campism for the heck of-it was the equivalent of someone preparing for scrabble.
Dhawan, the youngest of the lot, and perhaps with the most to lose, was the first to issue the classic ‘I’m sorry if feelings were hurt, but not for the actual thing I said’ tweet.
KJo’s apology on NDTV was about a taking a joke too far, and hoping this was the end of the matter since every time he hit rock bottom, someone invariably handed him a shovel.
But DNA, who seemed to feel the honour their beloveds was at stake, rushed in, with an uncredited short paragraph calling out Ranaut for her hypocrisy.
Their argument, you see is that, “We would like to remind Kangana that she is also guilty of encouraging it. After all, she got her sister Rangoli to manage her work and be her spokesperson till recently”.
And that isn’t all, after her sister stepped down from the position, HER BROTHER TOOK OVER, ACCOMPANYING HER TO EVENTS AND STUFF!
Because somehow, asking your immediate family to look out for your best interests and speak on your behalf is on the same field as having familial ties to the film industry all but guaranteeing a foot in the door, when for most, that door is an impossible dream to begin with.
Not content to have just the one foot in their mouth, DNA decided to go for a twofer with this final caveat-“ So, next time when she wants to point fingers at somebody, she better look at herself first!”
You know, we preferred it better when DNA gave us dating advice instead.
