Djed Spence returns to Tottenham and Destiny Udogie finds himself in an unusual situation

Tottenham's European loan players are edging towards the end of their season away from the club with the prospect of silverware for some and a premature end for one.

Spurs ' campaign has been an inconsistent one and that has been the same for many of the 11 players they sent out on loan across England, Spain, Italy and France. Three of those players, Troy Parrott, Dane Scarlett and Harvey White, have all returned to Tottenham after the conclusions of their loan spells at Preston, Portsmouth and Derby respectively.

So how exactly are Tottenham's remaining nine loanees currently getting on? football.london takes a look below.

Djed Spence and Joe Rodon (Rennes)

Djed Spence has returned to Tottenham after picking up what is being reported in France as a knee injury. Rennes manager Bruno Genesio is quoted in Ouest-France: "He is out until the end of the season. It is more than a sprain. He will also return to Tottenham to take care of himself."

Spence had gone from regular starter to unused substitute to sitting out of the matchday squad at Rennes as Genesio had shown a preference for the club's permanent players in captain Hamari Traore and Lorenz Assignon, then they returned from injury, rather than loan signings.

His Spurs team-mate Joe Rodon has suffered a similar fate and he hasn't played in Ligue 1 since February, being an unused substitute in 10 of Rennes' past 12 matches in the competition and not in the squad for the other two.

He was on the bench as sixth-placed Rennes overcame Troyes 4-0 at home at the weekend to leave them six points off fourth place and a Europa League spot.

Tanguy Ndombele (Napoli)

Tanguy Ndombele was also an unused substitute as Napoli lost 2-0 at Monza, meaning back to back turns on the bench without coming on. The Frenchman had played in every Serie A match before that that he was available for all the way back to August.

Ndombele had joined the ever-lengthening list of Tottenham players who have left the club and won silverware after Napoli clinched their first Scudetto in 33 years.

The 26-year-old has made 40 appearances for the Italian champions this season and will have a title winner's medal on his CV when his loan ends this summer.

Destiny Udogie (Udinese)

Destiny Udogie has found himself in the unusual position of coming off the bench in his past two matches for Udinese, having started every other one he has been available for.

On Sunday he got 29 minutes as a substitute in the 2-0 defeat at Fiorentina and the Italy U21 international has just three games left before he finally links up with Spurs a year after signing for the north London club.

Udogie has played 32 times for Udinese this season with 2,595 minutes to his name and three goals and four assists from left wing-back.

Harry Winks (Sampdoria)

Harry Winks' Sampdoria side are playing out their games after being relegated from Serie A last week and the midfielder was set to play for them against Empoli on Monday night.

Propping up the table, the Genoa-based club, who have big financial problems, are 13 points adrift of safety with four games remaining.

After recovering from ankle surgery Winks has played 17 times since the turn of the year, starting all but the first game after his return.

Bryan Gil (Sevilla)

Bryan Gil played 82 minutes as Sevilla drew 1-1 at Juventus on Thursday in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final and only got 29 touches of the ball in a tight match. He sent his three crosses off target and did the same with one long ball and one through ball but completed 81% of his 16 passes,

Gil was then an unused substitute as Sevilla won 3-0 at Real Valladolid on Sunday.

Sevilla host Juventus in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday night.

Gil has two goals and two assists now in 14 La Liga appearances for the Spanish side.

Giovani Lo Celso (Villarreal)

Giovani Lo Celso is a wanted man with Aston Villa and Villarreal both interested in taking him next season. He played 24 minutes on Saturday in the 5-1 victory at home against Athletic Bilbao.

After such a frustrating first half of the term, with injury stopping him from featuring in Argentina's successful World Cup campaign, Giovani Lo Celso has been making up for lost time in what remains of the season with a string of good performances that have sparked that interest in his services.

With two years left on his contract Spurs will likely be looking to recoup some money on Lo Celso this summer as one of their in-demand loan players.

Villarreal are fifth, five points off fourth-placed Real Sociedad, with four matches to go in La Liga.

Sergio Reguilon (Atletico Madrid)

Sergio Reguilon got 29 minutes to his name from the bench as Atletico lost 1-0 at Elche on Sunday.

The Spaniard has finally been getting minutes to his name in recent weeks, with three appearances from the bench in the past five matches.

Only making eight appearances in total for Atleti in what has been a nightmare season for the player since leaving Tottenham on loan due to injuries and illness, Reguilon will be hoping that a few more opportunities come his way in the final matches of the La Liga season.
