Mayo's request for the Division One Allianz Football League final to be played on Saturday has been turned down.
The Central Competitions Control Committee has decided to stick with the original fixture schedule and the decider, which sees Mayo go up against provincial rivals Galway, will take place at Croke Park on Sunday next with a 4pm throw-in. It will form a double header with the Division Two final between Derry and Dublin (1.45pm).
Mayo had sought for the game to be played a day earlier so as to maximise the lead-in to their Connacht Championship quarter-final against Roscommon, which takes place in Castlebar on Sunday week.
Should Mayo win that, they will face Galway again in the provincial semi-final on April 23. In preparation for that game, Galway are due to fly out to Portugal on a training camp next Monday, by which time they will hope to have secured their first League title since 1981.
The Division Three and Four finals will be played as a double header on Saturday at GAA headquarters, with Wicklow and Sligo throwing in at 5pm, followed by Cavan-Fermanagh at 7.15pm.
All four games must be decided on the day, which raises the possibility of a major final being decided on penalties for the first time.
