Police found Cameron Paul Forrest, 24, with fatal injuries during a welfare check at a Glen Eden house on Sunday afternoon and confirmed on Wednesday that his brother and mother had been charged with murder.
Court documents obtained by the ABC reveal details about the alleged murder, including the prosecution's description of the death as "horrific".
Police will allege the victim's 20-year-old younger brother Alex William Forrest told police the family was "going to get kicked out of the house, [because] of something to do with the lease".
Mother attempted to overdose son, police allege
Police will allege that on Saturday, the victim's mother Lee-Ann Rae Forrest gathered her two sons together and spoke about their "lack of a future due to financial difficulties and the likelihood of World War III".
She then allegedly gave an overdose of paracetamol to Cameron Forrest, however that "just made the victim feel ill".
Police will allege Ms Forrest then inflicted injuries upon Cameron Forrest with a knife that did not kill him, before later going on to harm him fatally.
When they were called to the house, police say they found the defendants with self-inflicted injuries.
The pair were treated in hospital following the incident and discharged on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the documents, evidence shows the defendant Alex Forrest believed his brother was "better off" and that the financial hardships the family were facing were "insurmountable".
Victim's mother observed to have 'split personality'
Documents also show Cameron Forrest was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
Police cited an ongoing mental health assessment in relation to the victim's mother.
During informal interviews with her, police said Ms Forrest "channelled the Archangel Michael".
In the documents, police reported Ms Forrest was observed to "transition in and out of what appeared to be a split personality in which she would adopt a much deeper voice whenever she spoke as Michael".
Ms Forrest's case was mentioned in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Wednesday afternoon and was adjourned until June 14.
Alex Forrest's case was heard in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning and will be before the courts again on June 8.
Both were remanded in custody.
