A 'disturbance' saw police and paramedics race a Lidl as shocked customers watched on. The drama unfolded at the supermarket chain's branch in Baguley, Wythenshawe earlier this morning.
A melee is said to have occurred inside the shop at the junction of Altrincham Road and Southmoor Road at around 9:30am. It is said to have involved two men, believed to be known to each other.
A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesman at this stage it was unclear if any weapons had been used and the full extent of any injuries were not yet known.
However, he said it appeared no one had suffered any life-threatening or life-changing injuries. One man was taken to hospital and one man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
A woman who left the store around the time of the incident told a bystander she had seen a man 'pouring with blood.' One man said he had seen two people being 'dragged away' in the aftermath.
Police taped off the store's entrance and part of its car park shortly after arriving. Specialist forensic crime scene investigation (CSI) teams and detectives could be seen carrying out enquiries both inside the store and around its entrance.
Officers could later be seen searching bushes on the grassed perimeter of the car park.
Shocked and bewildered would-be shoppers were turned by police until the cordon was lifted and the store re-opened around 2:30pm.
One said: "When I saw the tape and the CSI I knew it was obviously something fairly serious. I’m just worried for the guys in there, as they are all really nice people and I speak to them when I go in. I really hope everyone is okay.”
"Greater Manchester Police were called to Timpson Road in Wythenshawe at around 9:30am this morning (Tuesday 6 December 2022) to reports of a disturbance," the force said in a statement issued earlier.
"Officers attended the scene and one man has been arrested as a result. Enquiries are ongoing at this time."
