Distressing scenes after two petrol bomb attacks in three days on Irish housing estate

A Galway housing estate has been petrol bombed twice in two days, igniting fears among residents that a third attack could lead to someone's death.

The horrifying attacks took place last Saturday and Monday nights in Loughrea, causing damage tp two houses, a car that was parked and has also made families homeless and incited serious fear in the community.

Local councillor Michael ‘Mogie’ Maher told Galway Bay FM that those responsible for the attacks must stop immediately, Galway Beo reported.

He said: “This kind of violence, throwing petrol bombs into houses, needs to stop, before someone gets seriously hurt or a life is lost."

“At least two of those houses were damaged and those families will need to be moved. I’m appealing to anyone who’s doing this: please stop, before a life is lost.”

Many homeowners in the estate are fearing that their residence could be targeted next.

The elected representative said social media comments are highlighting these deep fears.

Loughrea gardaí are investigating both incidents, a spokesperson confirmed.

They said: “Gardaí in Loughrea are investigating an incident of criminal damage by fire at a house in Loughrea on the night of Saturday 25th February, 2023. An item was thrown through the front window of the house, breaking the window and causing fire damage to house."

A car parked in the driveway was also extensively damaged, the authorities relayed.

They added: "No persons were injured during the incident. Gardaí and Loughrea Fire Services also attended the scene of a fire in Loughrea, Co. Galway at 4.50pm on 27th and 28th February 2023."
